BAKING TIPS & TRICKS

B A K I N G

Baking is one of my favourite hobbies and since I started I have accumulated a lot of tips and tricks. Some people have their own ways of doing things and some of my ways I want to share with you all. Some of these tips have upped my baking game and I wouldn’t be able to bake without doing these things.

DIY your own piping bag

Sometimes when I bake cupcakes or cakes, I will come to the part where i need to ice and decorate and i will realise that i don’t have any piping bags. This is where you can get creative in a time of need. I have previously used freezer bags and they work a treat. You won’t need to use a nozzle, you will just pip straight from the bag. The smaller you snip the hole on the end of the bag, the more precision that you will have over the piping. Piping bags are alot thicker and i would prefer to use this over bags, but in a time of need freezer bags are amazing.

A wire rack IS needed

When baking anything, a wire rack is such an essential and sometimes i think needing one can be really over looked. As soon as something comes out of the oven, most of the time (unless stated) it will need to go straight onto a wire rack so it can cool down. The longer you keep it in the tin, the longer it will be till you can decorate whatever it is. I like to keep the wire rack near the open back door as normally there is a breeze and this will help to cool down whatever you have baked. I am so impatient so i found a way to speed up this process and it is so helpful.

Poke holes in whatever you have baked

After you place whatever you have baked on a wire rack, you are going to want to poke holes in it where ever you can. This is going to let the steam out which means it will cool down quicker. Use a toothpick or something or a chopstick, or even a fork and just poke it a couple of times all over. Also, say if you have made cupcakes the icing will fall into the holes and this will be DELISH.

IMG_3768

Use a sieve for powered ingredients

Using a sieve for every ingredient that you are putting into your mixing bowl is such an essential. Most powered ingredients have clumps and if you don’t sieve it you will get little pockets of that ingredient inside. For example, caster sugar should be sieved because there will probably be clumps of sugar stuck together and you dont want this other wise there will be a sugar clump in your cake.

Use a spoon to help with sieving

I learnt this new trick and it is so small but helps so much. So, you have a lot of flour and pour it into the sieve and you have to keep shaking the sieve to get the flour into the bowl. Take a spoon and literally stir what ever is in the sieve and this will sieve it quicker. I find it so much easier to use a spoon to mix it in the sieve then to shake the sieve, I always use this trick.

Measuring spoons make your life easier

Buying measuring spoons made baking alot easier for me because they are more accurate than using normal kitchen teaspoons and tablespoons. Tablespoons aren’t all the same size and neither are teaspoons. Also, i love that the on measuring spoons it will say on each spoon what it is in ml, what cup size it is and what that equates to in spoon so (teaspoon). You don’t have to google what 3 cups equates to in teaspoons. EASY AND STRESS FREE.

Don’t just rely on the toothpick trick

I love the tooth pick trick, placing a toothpick in the middle of what is in the oven can sometimes tell you if it is done or not. However, you need to take into consideration the colour of what it is you are baking. If you are baking cookies, you are most likely going to be checking to see if they are a golden colour.  If it is still white and doesn’t look like it has risen at all then it probably isn’t done. You have to make sure that the cake or whatever it is, is springy when you touch it. If it is still very wet, it is not done. Also, if you are baking cupcakes and you add chocolate chips into the mixture, as soon as you put a toothpick inside it will definitely come out wet because the chocolate chips will have melted. Therefore, you can’t always rely on this.

Use room temp butter

This is going to make sure your life so much more easier. If it says to have the butter at room temp and you think “ah, its alright I will just take it out straight out of the fridge” then you are doing it wrong. It is going to be soooo hard to mix the butter in with all of the other ingredients. It will literally be a hard block of butter and having the butter at room temp means you can mix everything together perfectly.

Rotate when in the oven

If you have to put something in the oven for 40 minutes. When it hits the 20 minute mark, rotate whatever is in the oven around. This is going to ensure that everything has an equal amount of time being in that place in the oven. Sometimes, ovens can be hotter at certain points in the oven (like mine) the left side of my oven is more hotter than the right side. I have to make sure that I am rotating it when it is in the oven. This ensures that everything will be baked evenly.

Let it cool completely

Most people have heard of this one because it is very important. If you are baking cupcakes and you take them out of the oven, and start icing automatically then it won’t work as the icing will met. You need to make sure that the cakes are 100% cooled down, otherwise it will make the icing watery and it will just drip off your cakes. This is something you don’t want, as they won’t look pretty and will look like a wet mess. That is why if you leave them on the cooling rack, with holes in them it should cool them down and then you can decorate.

LAST ONE..

Keep your oven door closed

When you have put whatever you are baking into the oven, keep it closed until half way through when you need to rotate it or when you need to check on it/take it out. The more you take it out, it is going to mess up the baking time and it will stop the baking process. For example, putting cupcakes in the oven and opening the door will stop them from rising.

If you bake, I would love to know if you have any tips and tricks of your own. Or even just rules that you live by.

RIMMEL STAY SATIN COLLECTION

B E A U T Y

I am such a lipstick lover. I love every type of lipstick. I was very kindly sent a VoxBox from Influenster, (which if you don’t know what it is click here and watch my Youtube video on it, I review another Rimmel collection and talk about how the app works etc..) They very kindly sent me Rimmel’s new launch and of lipsticks! They have a new satin liquid lipstick!!! AHHH!! If you know me then you know that their Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick is one of my favourite liquid lipsticks, in the shade Be My Baby, it is my ultimate nude shade! So when Influenster said they were sending me a whole box of their new formula, TOO EXCITED!!

They sent me 8 of their newest lipsticks and honestly I am already blown away with them! So they are a satin liquid lipstick, they dry like a liquid lipstick but have the feel of a gloss. Therefore, if you drink or eat then it will transfer BUT! it lasts for such a long time.  I know that they have more shades than the 8 that they sent me, and all of them are stunning!!

I am going to be discussing everything… the packaging, the formula, the colours, the price, where to get them from and is it worth your dollar?!

I think the names are kind of cool. I really like the one called Scrunchie just because it sort of goes with this time of year, it is summer and the sun is out. I love a good Scrunchie in my hair! love it!

The colours are absolutely stunning! They all look very opaque and really colourful. I love the different tones of pink/purple. There are two nudes and a grey and the rest of the colours are pretty fun. I feel like all of these colours will look good for certain occasions, the grey one is certainly screaming Halloween to me. You can see from the swatches that they are very glossy, these make me super happy.

The packaging is exactly the same as their stay matte lip quick lipsticks. I have always liked the packaging, it is pretty standard from Rimmel. They are lightweight and are easy to keep in your bag to re apply if needed.

W H E N & W H E R E ?

You can get these from Superdrug, and because this post is so over due they are most definitely in stores already.

I have been wearing these for a while now and I can honestly say I love them. I love the new formulation and how long-lasting they are. They have the longevity of a matte lipstick but appear satin. I have noticed that once the satin of the lipgloss starts to wear off, it just starts to look like a matte lipstick. I have been really enjoying wearing these as they are perfect for this time of year. LOVE THEM! I have been wearing the shades shoulder pads and scrunchie the most, they are gorgeous. I would recommend these lippies if you are a gloss lover, but also you love a gloss that lasts a good amount of time!

What colour stands out to you? do you have any of these?

My obsession with Femme Luxe

F A S H I O N

Discovering new fashion websites is one of my favourite things when it comes to fashion as a whole. I love that each fashion brand has their own styles and different price points. I get excited to see the fit of new clothes, the quality and how I style them.

Today’s post is in collaboration with Femme Luxe , as they very kindly sent me* some of their beautiful clothes. They are a UK brand that have multiple items of clothing on their website. All of the clothes on their website are very ‘instagramable’ and I have seen a lot of their clothes already online. At the moment they currently have an 85% off sale, AN 85% SALE!… crazy!

– White Vogue Printed Crop Top –
£7.99

IMG_3386_Facetune_05-09-2018-19-50-07.jpg

IMG_3234_Facetune_05-09-2018-15-34-57

I love this little cropped tee, it is the sort of tee that you will see all of the bloggers wearing on Instagram. It is the perfect cropped length, not too high where it is just under your boobs, but not too low where it couldnt really be called a crop top. The fit was very good, actually perfect. It wasn’t too tight, but wasn’t too lose, so somewhere in-between which makes me happy. The top itself is quite thin, but I prefer this to a super tight top as I like a bit of stretch to it. I like that it is white, but I do believe that you can also get it in black. This top will go with a lot of clothing, so I think it will be very easy to wear on a day to day basis.

– Striped Floral Wide Leg Trousers –
£12.99

IMG_3236_Facetune_05-09-2018-15-40-20

I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE TROUSERS. I wore these to my friends BBQ the other week, I had so many compliments about these trousers. I am in love with the print, it is very out there but I love that they bring so much to an outfit. I have styled it with a plan black crop top, because I didn’t want to take away attention from the trousers. They are quite thin, but are strechy which I like. No one wants to wear these types of trousers and be feeling like they can’t move in them. These trousers also came with a belt, but i prefered to wear them without it They are quite long in length which meant that i had roll them up at the waist, but this obviously depends on how tall you are. I am in love with these,  I think they are such a unique style of trouser. I also love love love the wide legs, it just adds something different to the whole outfit.

– Colour Contrast Belted Jumpsuit –
£15.99

IMG_3251

IMG_3264

When I saw this outfit on their website, I knew that I needed it. The print is such a dream, it is very unique but so stunning to look at. I wanted to get this outfit because it is out of my comfort zone and I am so glad that I did, it is gorgeous. The fit across my whole body is perfect. It is stretchy across the stomach area, the length is perfect, a great fit around the shoulders. The only place it didn’t fit me that well was around the chest, it was a bit too big for my chest area. The quality of this piece was really thick and felt really luxurious. It also came with a belt which was a cute little touch. It is such a sophisticated outfit, I really love it. I felt so confident and gorgeous in it.

– Dusky Pink Crop Top and Trousers Co-Ord Set –
£18.99

IMG_3270_Facetune_05-09-2018-16-17-51

IMG_3284_Facetune_05-09-2018-16-19-14

This is the type of outfit that I would normally wear if I was going out clubbing, or out for a couple of drinks. The co ord set came in a million different colours such as purple, black and even with a Leopard print which I thought was incredible as they literally have a couple / print for everyone. Pink is my favourite colour and I always feel comfortable wearing it so this was the colour that I choose it in. I love that you can wear it for an occasion, but you can also play it down to make it look more casual. The quality once again was stretchy and thin and it is the sort of colour where you will have to find the right type of underwear, so it doesn’t show through the bottoms. The length of the trousers were quite long and I had to roll it up at the waist, this didn’t really bother me at all. The top was a good fit, however, it was very much right under my arm pit. I think this would have looked gorgeous in the black also, so sophisticated.

– Black with White Stripe Off Shoulder Loungewear Set –
£17.99

FullSizeRender 3

FullSizeRender 2

Cosy clothes are my thing. I feel so comfortable and at ease when I am wearing them. They remind me of winter and just being cosy with a nice cup of tea. This is such a cute loungewear set. They had three over colours of these sets online, I definitely was more drawn to this colour set. The quality of it is really lovely, it feels great quality. The length of the legs were perfect, they weren’t too long and weren’t too short. The jumper is the perfect cropped length, I liked to pull my trousers up a little higher so they were high waisted. This loungewear set is supposed to be off the shoulder, but the hole didn’t seem to be big enough to be off of the shoulder. This whole set is literally so comfortable and I know I will be living in this throughout the winter.

I would 100% recommend this brand to anyone. They have such stunning clothes on their website, I wanted everything. Their products were good quality and I know I will be buying some pieces from there.

Have you ever shopped on this site before? What is your favourite outfit from the post?

Colorsport 30 day mascara & brow tint review.

B E A U T Y

Hey everyone, today I have a very interesting post for you all. Todays post is sponsored by Colorsport. as they very kindly sent me* their 30 day brow tint, and their 30 day mascara.

I have seen these products before, so when they asked if they could send me some, I was delighted. I am such a big fan of eye brow dyes, I think using them really makes your brows stand out and I much prefer my brows when they are dyed compared to when they aren’t.  However, I have never used a lash dye before, therefore, I was very excited to use it!

Be prepared for a naked rough face without makeup, I look pretty scary 🙂 but I wanted to be as honest as I could. Therefore, it was better it do it without makeup. I want to go through each step so I can tell you all what worked for me and what didn’t.

The 30 Day Brow Tint retails for £8.25 and you can pick this up from your local Boots store. You can get this in the shades Black and Dark Brown.

The 30 Day Mascara also retails for £8.25 and you can pick it up from your local Boots store too. You can get this in the shades Dark Brown and Black.

Let’s discuss the packaging first. I quite liked the packaging of the box because I like how it is simple but also very eye-catching. From looking at both boxes you can see exactly what the product is for, for example.. on the mascara one you can tell straight away that the product is a mascara from the image. I also like the pink and the blue used for the different products, it changes things up bit and they look like a pair which is pleasing. When you pull out the product inside, it comes in a little plastic tray and it has everything inside. I like how simple this is, because if you have never used anything like this before then it shouldn’t be hard for you.

LASHES BEFORE

STEP ONE-

Cleanse your eyelashes thoroughly.

– I think this step is so necessary, in order to make sure that there is nothing already on your lashes that could interrupt this process.

fullsizeoutput_3b50STEP TWO-

Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly under the eyes in order to keep the eye protection papers in place and to keep the dye off of the skin.

fullsizeoutput_3b51

fullsizeoutput_3b52

– After putting on this paper protectors, they were very uncomfortable to wear and if you look in the picture directly above you can see that on my left eye, the protector has come away from my under eye. I found that this happened a lot so I just ended up taking off this paper protectors because they kept falling off and felt pointless. They were too big for my eyes and didn’t suit my eye shape at all. However, I like that they are in there so you can protect your under eyes.

fullsizeoutput_3b54STEP THREE-

Dip a cotton bud into the Eyelash Colour Solution 1 and apply several coats onto the eyelashes. Leave on for 1 minute and DO NOT RINSE then move on to the next step.  (The longer the solution is left on for the darker it is)

– I really liked that they supplied you with cotton buds, all you literally need is the kit and you don’t have to supply anything else towards it. I left mine on for two minutes.

fullsizeoutput_3b58

This is what my lashes looked like after doing the third step.

fullsizeoutput_3b59STEP FOUR-

Apply 1cm of Eyelash Colour Gel 2 onto the eyelash brush and work it through the lashes.

fullsizeoutput_3b5b

fullsizeoutput_3b5c

fullsizeoutput_3b5d

– As you can see from the picture above, I got some of the dye on my under eye. This is why the paper protection pieces are good to use because of stuff like this happening. This dye stayed under my eyes for about 5 -7 days.

STEP FIVE-

Wait for 1 minute then rinse off with some shampoo, soap or wet cotton pads. ( if you need to remove stains from the skin, dip cotton bud into Eyelash Colour 1 and rub it on.)

– I did get dye on my skin, however when I put the clean cotton bud into Eyelash colour 1, this did not remove it. That is why I had the stain under my eye for a couple of days.

LASHES AFTER

Regarding the instructions, I think that they are very simple and easy to follow which I think is good. For someone who has never used an eyelash dye before, I didn’t find it hard at all and the kit in general was very easy to use. The eye lash dye is very natural and I would say more for people who just want a tiny little tint to their lashes, or even if they don’t like to wear mascara. I think this mascara would be perfect for people who have blonde lashes.

I was expecting a little bit more for the product, I did think it was going to be darker. You can see from the last pictures that it has worked, but it is very natural. I would price this product at around £4.99 if I am honest, because it does work but I don’t think it should be beyond the £8 mark. I like how quick it is to use, it literally takes around 5-10 minutes to do and I really like that you don’t have to leave it on for long at all. The eye protectors didn’t work for me at all, they just kept falling off of my eyes. It would have been much better if they have different sizes instead of them all being the same size, and people with different eye shapes might struggle with these too. I love that woman and men are both allowed to use it, I think that is really good.

BROWS BEFORE

STEP ONE-

Cleanse the eyebrows throughly

– Very important once again, so nothing interferes with this process. I made sure I had nothing on my brows.

STEP TWO-

Prepare one eye at a time by using a cotton bud to place petroleum around the eyebrows so no dye gets on the skin.

– I didn’t find that I needed to use the jelly around my eyebrows as I have use eyebrow dye before so I knew what I was doing,

STEP THREE-

Pierce the nozzle of the dye cream tube with the opposite side of the cap.squeeze 1cm of Dye Cream into the mixing bowl and add 10 small drops of the Developer Lotion and mix together.

– I liked the little mixing tool that it came with, this made it very easy to mix the two together. However, the developer was more like a cream therefore, you can’t really drop the contents inside as it is not a a running liquid. It has more of a cream consistency, therefore, I just had to guess what 10 drops would be.

fullsizeoutput_3b66STEP FOUR-

Apply the mixture to the eyebrows using the wand or the brush and leave on for 1-2 minutes.

– I used the brush when I did mine.

fullsizeoutput_3b67

fullsizeoutput_3b69

fullsizeoutput_3b68

This is what my eyebrows looked like with the dying mixture on.

STEP FIVE-

Use a wet cotton pad and wipe away the mixture.

BROWS AFTER

BROWS AFTER

Once again, the instructions to use were very simple and easy to follow. It was not hard at all and if you have never done this sort of thing before then you won’t have a problem.

I always dye my eyebrows, I know how I like them to look after and how to normally use the dye kits. I did expect more from this eyebrow dye as I was really excited to try it and I thought there would be more colour pay off. Maybe I should give it another go and leave it on for 5 minutes instead. I did think my brows would have more colour to them, but this product is also for those who like their brows to look natural. You can see a slight difference, it is just very natural. I normally like my brows to look darker than this, but if you are someone who likes natural then this is for you.

I definitely preferred the lash dye to the eyebrow dye as I noticed more of a difference with the lash dye. However, I preferred the application process of the brow tint. On their website they have tutorials for how to use both of the products mentioned in this post and I think that is amazing. I really like how they want you to be safe when using this products.

What do you think of these products?

October 3: eyeshadow palettes perfect for Autumn & Halloween

– BEAUTY –

Nyx has become one of my favourite makeup brands within the last couple of months. I picked up two of their Ultimate Shadow Palettes and I can say that they are essential for Autumn and Halloween. I got one palette called the Warm Neutral palette and the Brights palette. The Warm Neutral is honestly perfect for this time of year, it is a really warm toned palette and has a lot of stunning colours. The Brights palette is such a great palette to use to create really cool Halloween makeup looks, but also if you are looking to experiment with bright colours.

Both palettes were £16.00 which I thought was really good, especially because there is 16 shadows inside, so you are getting 16 shadows for £16 which isn’t bad at all. Inside each palette there is a mixture of different shadows such as mattes, shimmers, satins and metallics.

fullsizeoutput_1ffb

The packaging for the palettes are the same, they are quite bulky but are a good size. They are quite thick which is good as there means there is a lot of product inside. I do find it hard to open each palette, I have to really dig my nail under the opening of the palette or I just use my teeth ( don’t judge me ) Each palette has a shelf life of 24 months and each individual eyeshadow palette is 0.83g of product which is alright. It will definitely take me longer to get through the Brights palette then it will to get through the Neutrals palette.

fullsizeoutput_2004

The colours in both palettes are stunning. The colour variation in both palettes is also really good, and the colour placement really satisfies me. You can create some amazing looks with each palettes. With the Naturals palette I like to create a burgandy smokey eye with a gold shimmer cut crease. I also like to create more of a darker brown smokey eye with a brown shimmer cut crease. In both palettes the shades are numbered, so 1 being the first left shade and 16 being the last shade in the palette.

IMG_1002

fullsizeoutput_2028

In the first two lines there is a mixture of mattes, shimmers and metallics. There are great shadows here for a base colour and towards the end of the swatches, there are some great transition colours. The first shimmer shade is a really lovely shimmery colour, that looks lovely in the corner of the eyes or even under the brow bone. The fourth gold colour is my favourite glittery/shimmery shadow in the palette, it really packs a punch. The metallic rose gold colour is actually stunning. I love to apply this to my eyes with a bit of fix plus. The colours start to get a bit more darker in the second row.

IMG_1003

fullsizeoutput_2012

The last two rows of colours are stunning! there are some lovely browns and burgundy colours. The first swatch is a shimmer and then after that every other shade is a matte shade. There is two colours in here that are cool toned browns, which is good that they included some cool toned ones too. The third shade didn’t swatch that well, but once applied on the eyes.. they are stunning. These two rows are the rows that I am really drawn to the most, i love all of the warm toned brown colours. That fourth colour IS MY FAVE.

The colour pay off is really good for what you are paying for. You can tell that these shadows are a drugstore branded eyeshadow palette, the pigmentation isn’t the best so most of the colours might need building up. This doesn’t bother me that much, as you can play with the intensity. I have noticed that they don’t stay on my eyes as long as some of my other shadows from other palettes stay on my eyes. Towards the end of the evening, they have worn off a little bit but you can still see that there is shadow on my eyes. With primer it definitely lasts a lot longer, so definitely use primer with this eyeshadow (with any eyeshadow really).

fullsizeoutput_21a2

fullsizeoutput_2021

There are some lovely colours in the first two rows, the first red colour, the dark purple colour and the light purple colour next to it are mattes with a lot of shimmer in them. There is a good selection of colours here and I feel like you could do some cool looks with these colours. The colours are definitely my sort of colours in this palette that i will probably reach for the most. There is a cute pastel purple on the end of the swatch which I think is such a lovely colour. That first red colour is sooo stunning and will look really cool under the yes if you are doing a vampire look or something. The orange colour is such a great colour if you are looking to do a pumpkin eye look or something, there is another orange colour in the last row too that this would go well with.

fullsizeoutput_21a3

fullsizeoutput_2026

There are some cool colours in the last part of the palette, some of these colours I have never seen before in other palettes. They are so unique and look so fun to play with. The first four shades are different blue tones, the first and third blue colours are shimmers and the others are mattes. I like how they havent just included like two colours of blue but created four different blue shadows which all vary in colour. Then there is two green colours, the first one is a matte and the second one is a shimmer. At the end of the palette there is an orange colour which is matte and a shimmery yellow. I have never worn blue or green eyeshadow before so this will be fun to experiment with.

The colour pay off is good with this palette, you can really build up the intensity which is good depending on what sort of look you are going for. All of the colours could be used as an every day look if they were subtle I think. All of the matte shades have a couple of speckles of glitter in here and there and the shimmery shades are also mattes but with alot of shimmer. Depending on how you blend out the colour with depend on how much shimmer the eye colour will have.

fullsizeoutput_200b

I would definitely recommend getting these palettes if you are so ready for Autumn but are looking for the perfect autumnal eyeshadow palette and if you are looking for an eyeshaodw palette that is going to help you out for Halloween.

What palette are you more drawn to? do you have any of these palettes?

The packaging for the palettes are the same, they are quite bulky but are a good size. They are quite thick which is good as there means there is a lot of product inside. I do find it hard to open each palette, I have to really dig my nail under the opening of the palette or I just use my teeth ( don’t judge me ) Each palette has a shelf life of 24 months and each individual eyeshadow palette is 0.83g of product which is alright. It will definitely take me longer to get through the Brights palette then it will to get through the Neutrals palette.
